Description

This is a real beauty! It’s got that cool, smoky nose that is so Sonnenuhr but it’s floral too. Something akin to jasmine, though less obviously sweet. Like all the 2021s there is a laser of acidity running through it. You’ll find lovely layers of fruit, limes first and then juicy stone fruits as well. This Kabinett simply has it all – balletic balance, mountain stream freshness, and a dangerously long finish. Cellar it for a few years and then be careful not to drink the whole case in one go.

The citrus underlying that smoky first impression—which is less marked than in some vintages—seems riper here than on the Graacher Himmelreich. It is chewy and broader on the palate but pulled in on the long finish.

Sweet

Smoke and reduction still cloud the nose of the 2021 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett, but golden, aromatic, textured fruit somehow combines pink grapefruit and russet pear peel, golden Mirabelle, and lime. Wonderful ripeness is channelled with absolute precision on an elegant, smooth palate. Subtle fruit echoes long, real elegance.
