Description

Surrounded by a host of famous names including Elio Grasso, Domenico Clerico and Paolo Conterno, Seghesio’s plot of Ginestra comes from the upper portion of the vineyard (above Vigna Pajana) at 380 metres above sea level, with a west facing exposition. The vines here enjoy a long maturation in the afternoon sun, with harvest starting in late October. Submerged cap is always employed here, giving greater extraction and crucially more polish to the tannins. This has a dark and brooding fruit character, with cassis and bramble alongside vibrant touches of blood orange and dried herbs. Ageing is only in large, Slavonian oak for two years. This will benefit greatly from a couple of years in bottle but promises a long and graceful evolution.

Aromas camphor, dried rose petal and dark spice lead the nose on the alluring 2021 Ginestra from Renzo Seghesio. Made with Nebbiolo from the higher elevations of the Ginestra cru, fermented with 15% whole clusters and aged in Slavonian casks, the firm, elegantly structured palate delivers cranberry, licorice, blood orange and earthy hints recalling grilled Porcini and dried herb alongside taut, fine-grained tannins.
