Description

This vintage suffered from frost which, consequently, increased the potential alcohol levels in the wine. The nose has strong and complex aromas of citrus peel, lychee and orange blossom. The palate has great tension carried on salivating salinity. Some pineapple notes are also present on the palate. This seriously powerful Savennières has great texture.

More finesse and focus than Grandes Rogeries, this has less flesh but still retains the fantastic concentration. A dramatic and showy Savennières which is a wonderful showcase for this underrated AOP.

Savennières

Savennières is a tiny white Anjou appellation (comprising Savennières, Savennières-Coulée-de-Serrant, and Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines) revered for its dry, full-bodied Chenin Blanc wines, grown on the ancient schistous/volcanic soils on the southern banks of the Loire. The best are hand-harvested by trie (often with a degree of noble rot), before being pressed and aged in oak barrels.
