Description

This comes from a site on the upper part of the hillside. In Carel’s hands, this wine is a rather ethereal and lifted expression of Mercurey. The wine feels so authentic, just what you would expect Mercury to deliver: something earthy but not rustic, perhaps a hint of liquorice, and then a spicy, tangy bite. The finish is long and surprisingly persistent.

Dark red to crimson. Another firm nose with a nutty note. Slightly heavy on the palate with some tougher tannins behind. There is some prettier fruit waiting to escape from underneath. This should come in to place with a bit of tidying up.

A slightly more elegant and riper nose offers notes of plum, dark cherry, and newly turned earth. Here, too, the medium-weight flavours possess an appealing texture that is at once caressing but punchy. All this is wrapped in a lingering, complex, and balanced finish that is a bit less rustic. This, too, is quite good.
