Description
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, reduced to four barrels this year, just feels a little enervated on the nose compared to the Morey, a tad shallow compared to other vintages. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, lively and fresh with orange sorbet towards its sweet and "playful" finish. The palate actually offers more than the aromatics.
“There was a lot of frost complicated by the rain,” the eternally ebullient Thomas Collardot tells me in this cuverie in Gilly, close to the church. “I used candles in Echézeaux and Grands Echézeaux, but they were not effective. I pruned late in Morey-Saint-Denis on 15 March…but it still didn’t make much difference. We are 50% down in Village and Premier Cru and 33% in Grand Cru. I only picked 140kg of the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, so this blended into the Village. I did the same fermentation and maceration as in other years, using 10% to 15% stems for the cuvées except for the Bourgogne Rouge. I will bottle the wines next March.”

Four barrels made from a crop reduced by hail before the flowering as well as frost. Pretty pink purple. Perhaps a lighter fruit on the nose, pretty strawberry fruit, very accessible, even a touch of sucrosity.
