In Matteo’s words this is a cru for all occasions. Hailing from 65+ year old vines on limestone-rich soils, Luigi Giordano shares this vineyard with Gaja, but is the only producer to label the wine as Cavanna, making it its own little monopole. The 2021 explodes with ultra-classic notes of dried rose petal, wild strawberries and pomegranate, before a sweet herbal complexity peers through on the finish. This punches well above its weight and is worthy of a place in every cellar.

The medium ruby 2021 Barbaresco Cavanna is giving, with pretty floral notes of fresh roses, wild strawberries, and fresh tarragon. Medium-bodied, it’s lean on the palate but has bright acidity and good structure, with notes of orange pith through the finish. This is another winner with a lot of immediate appeal.
