2021 Saumur Blanc, Bréze, Domaine Guiberteau, Loire

Description

Vines here were planted in 1933 and 1952 and are sourced from two prime locations in Breze. The nose has a lovely grilled almond reduction aspect, which you often find when the terroir is worked perfectly. I have also seen that the association with Dussiaux Barrells sometimes enables these types of reductions to occur. It is worth noting that this is a lovely reduction that adds to the complexity of the wine more than anything else!

The nose continues with subtle floral aromas and rich stone fruits. The acidity and tension on the palate are very well-balanced, and the complexity and depth are mirrored here. A good saline finish with yet again some trace of white pepper and sweet species – Wow, what a wine!

Critics reviews

Yohan Castaing 92/100

The Guiberteau’s 2021 Brézé reveals a floral, elegant bouquet of white and spring flowers, pears, spices and herbs intertwined with smoky and toasty notes. Medium to full-bodied, broad, satiny and very complex with a seamless, perfectly balanced structure, it’s long, intense and bright on the finish with citrus and kumquat notes. Matured for one year in used barrels, it derives from vines planted on calcareous soils in the center of the commune of Brézé.
