Description

A bit lean, the 2021 Clos de la Roche from Castagnier reflects the slightly old-fashioned style of the vintage, with high-toned pomegranate and cranberry fruit, a suggestion of tobacco and tea, a slightly acerbic turn to the tannins on the palate, and the fresh acidity that is the hallmark of the vintage. The grapes come from two plots, one in Fremières and one at the southern end of Mochamps.

Clear, fullish purple. The bouquet is open and attractive, but like all the Castagnier wines this year, it seems at this stage to be a bit lacking in precision. There is more structure behind, an extra weight towards the back with some darker fruit notes. Leaves a good final flavour in the mouth.
