Description

The 2021 vintage of our Extra Ordinary Claret comes from Château Villa Bel-Air, an estate in the southern Graves region on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Known affectionately as “EOC”, this is the big sibling to our flagship Good Ordinary Claret. It has a little more structure and concentration than you’ll find in our “GOC”.

Tasting note

Our Extra Ordinary Claret is a classic red Bordeaux blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. The nose is expressive and pure, displaying a delicate bouquet of red fruits. The palate is nicely focused and layered; ripe flavours of red cherry and blackcurrant are held in check by very fine and smooth tannins. There is a harmonious balance between concentration, structure and freshness, making a great pairing with most hearty, savoury dishes.

About this wine

Graves

The region which first established Bordeaux's reputation, Graves wines were exported to England as early as the 12th century. The names is derived from ‘gravel’ and the best soils are gravel-rich, mixed with sand and occasionally clay. It is larger in areas than the Médoc but produces only half the amount of wine. The best wines were first classified in 1953 with this classification confirmed in 1959.
