2021 Gevrey-Chambertin, Ma Cuvée, Arnaud Mortet, Burgundy

Description

This wine comes from vineyards mostly towards the east of Gevrey, on the alluvial fan of the Combe de Lavaux. The soil here is stony and well-drained, giving a wine of finesse and pleasure. There is plenty of seductive, creamy red berry fruit and a silken texture. Made with 40% whole bunches and aged in 10 to 15% new oak barrels.

Critics reviews

Allen Meadows 89-91/100

Reduction flattens the underlying fruit though there is wonderful freshness and verve to the notably refined middleweight flavors that owe their texture to the markedly fine-grained tannins supporting the lingering finale that displays focused power and excellent length. Lovely and understated in style.

One third whole bunch acidity is lower here) 10-15% new wood. The grapes come from southern end vineyards, mostly above the main road except for La Justice. A glowing, beautiful purple, with a hedonistic but not too heady nose. Sublime elegance married to precision. Fresh fruit with white pepper, then a volume of cherry and strawberry fruit, leading to a fine balanced finish. And a great aftertaste.

About this wine

Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest wine-producing village in Burgundy’s Côte d'Or. Located in the far north of the Côtes de Nuits, the classic style is typically deeper in colour, firmer in body and more tannic in structure than most red Burgundy. While in the past there have been myriad underperformers here, the overall quality is now higher than ever and the best can develop into the most complete and long-lived Pinot Noir in the world.
