2021 Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine Guyon

Description

This wine is from three parcels in Vosne-Romanée: a generic section of Combe d’Orveaux, La Croix Blanche and Les Pâquiers. In 2021, it also has a third of the production of the village Vosne included in it. The wine is bursting with fruit, with high tones of cherry and cranberry. These flavours are all carried through to the palate which is full and rounded with a nice sapid twist.

Critics reviews

Jasper Morris MW 85-87/100

Rich heady purple fresh and delicious, loads of energy, explosive brambly raspberry fruit. Crunchy fruit, a suggestion of something wilder also, good length but wait and see. I would be inclined to trade up to the excellent Chorey.

Drink 2024 - 2026

Aromas of sweet strawberries and cherries introduce the 2021 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, a medium-bodied, ample and lively wine with a pretty core of fruit that’s less deep and complex than recent renditions.

Jean-Pierre Guyon is very happy with his 2021 portfolio, which will be in bottle by the time this report goes to press. His team took 14 days to sort the production, manually dismembering whole clusters to retain berries intact on their pedicels in many cases, and cuvaisons lasted some 20 days. His barrels, produced by Tonnellerie Rousseau, are increasingly sourced exclusively from the forest of Tronçais.

About this wine

Bourgogne

Bourgogne

In the Burgundy hierarchy, “Bourgogne” denotes the entry level of the classification system. This is a so-called “regional” appellation, theoretically covering the entire vineyard area of Burgundy. This is distinct from the more geographically precise village-level, Premier Cru and Grand Cru designations. The two most common Bourgogne-level wines are Bourgogne Blanc (“White Burgundy”) and Bourgogne Rouge (“Red Burgundy”).
