2020 Brunello di Montalcino, Molino di Sant'Antimo, Tuscany, Italy

Description

Harvest for the Brunello started on the 14th September. While the vineyards generally destined for the Rosso have a north-east exposure, here we have south-west/south-east, with the grapes able to enjoy the afternoon sun. In 2020, summer was hot but the fruit was able to retain profound freshness due to the diurnal range in Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Valeria’s 2020 leads with beautifully expressive fruit and generosity, quickly following with a fine structure and sweet, resolved tannins. This is a triumph, and continues with a graceful and slowly evolving finish.

Critics reviews

Kerin O'Keefe 96/100

The 2020 Molino di Sant’Antimo is smooth and utterly delicious. It’s also fragrant, with alluring scents of violet, baking spice, ripe plum and Mediterranean scrub that on the palate transform into ripe Marasca cherry, raspberry preserve, star anise and cake spice. Polished but present tannins lend seamless support and a silky texture while fresh acidity keeps it nicely balanced. It’s already drinking beautifully but will also offer years of enjoyment.

About this wine

Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino

Along with Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino is Tuscany's most famous DOCG and its boldest expression of the Sangiovese grape. Located 30 miles south of Siena, its 2,000 hectares of vines are hemmed in by the Orcia, Asso and Ombrone valleys. Brunello is the local name for the Sangiovese Grosso clone from which Brunello di Montalcino should be made in its entirety. The wine cannot be released for sale until five years after the harvest.
