2020 Barolo Treturne, Fogliati, Piedmont, Italy

Description

The Tretune is made from a selection of two older vineyards across two communes: Castiglione Falletto, and Monforte d’Alba. This Barolo embodies both commune, boasting the perfumed elegance of Castiglione’s sandy Pugnane vineyard, alongside the complex weight of Monforte from Annalisa’s 80-year-old Bussia vineyard.

The wine underwent a 35-day maceration, followed by 18 months’ maturation in 50hL Stockinger botti and cement vats. The nose is fresh and vibrant, tightly toned, and filled with fragrances of essential oils and an old-vine sweetness. The palate is rich in minty berry fruit, alongside a lucid 2020 kiss, and a noteworthy sandy-soil softness. There’s mineral and musk rose on the finish, too.

Critics reviews

Walter Speller 17/20

Just mid ruby. Balsamic, chalky raspberry nose with hints of incense. With aeration the nose really opens up and becomes more aromatic. Bright, fresh, long raspberry and cherry fruit with coating tannins kicking in on the finish. Gorgeous, long, textured raspberry finish.

About this wine

Barolo

Barolo

Piedmont's most famous wine DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), Barolo is renowned for producing Italy's finest reds from 100 percent Nebbiolo. The Barolo appellation was formalised in 1966 at around 1,700 hectares, and has an exceptional terroir with almost every village perched on its own hill. The climate is continental, with an extended summer and autumn enabling the fickle Nebbiolo to achieve perfect ripeness.
