2020 Barolo, Boschetti, Scarzello, Piedmont, Italy

Description

Around 1,400 bottles are produced per year.

Federico’s Boschetti comes from a mix of both sandy and blue-clay soils. This is the only Scarzello vineyard with a sand component to the soil composition, but the sand is large and more closely resembles gravel. The 2020 has a wonderfully deep strawberry tone and balances generosity with a discrete but convincing structure with a promise of longevity. This is cool, poised and energetic.

Critics reviews

Walter Speller 17/20

Barolo. Palish ruby. Slumbering raspberry nose. Intense, juicy, fresh raspberry palate with finely grained tannins woven into the fruit. Elegant and juicy at the same time and with impressive length.

About this wine

Barolo

Barolo

Piedmont's most famous wine DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), Barolo is renowned for producing Italy's finest reds from 100 percent Nebbiolo. The Barolo appellation was formalised in 1966 at around 1,700 hectares, and has an exceptional terroir with almost every village perched on its own hill. The climate is continental, with an extended summer and autumn enabling the fickle Nebbiolo to achieve perfect ripeness.
