Description

After just three years of ageing, this is already impeccable. Balance and refinement are the watchwords here. Bluckcurrant, dark cherry and even plum notes are interlaced with wild strawberry notes. The balance is remarkable. The tannins give the wine a great sense of seriousness and longevity with an overriding sense of refinement.

Andy Howard MW 17/20

Although there is plenty of density and ripeness on show, it is all in great balance. Savoury notes combined with dark cherry. Crisp acidity and plenty of structure for further ageing. An intense, top-end Saumur-Champigny which shows that this AOP is not just for glugging in a Paris wine bar. But very pricey!

Saumur-Champigny is an Anjou-Saumur appellation noted for the uncomplicated, fruit-forward character of its Cabernet Franc red wines grown on the sand over chalky tuffeau soils. The wines are aged predominantly in old oak or inert vessels to give a good-value, early-drinking style. Château du Hureau is a consistently good source.
