2020 Saumur Rouge, Les Chapaudaises, Domaine Guiberteau, Loire

Situated in the commune of Epieds, the 2020 Les Chapaulaises, crafted from vines planted in 1946, exhales a dark, somber bouquet of flowers, liquorice, cherries, spices and flowers. Medium-bodied, concentrated and youthfully structured, it’s perfectly balanced with powdery tannins and a firm, somewhat austere finish. Hide bottles for 5-8 years in the cellar.

Founded in 1935, this family estate has experienced international expansion thanks to Romain Guiberteau’s efforts. Since adopting organic farming practices in 2003, the estate now covers 20 hectares, predominantly in the commune of Brézé, renowned for its limestone subsoils. The vinification process remains traditional, emphasising control over microbiological factors, while élevages take place in vats and wooden tanks, supplemented by select barrels from the coopers Rousseau and Dussiaux. This estate is highly regarded for producing precise, vibrant, structured and richly mineral wines.
