La Màgia’s Cilliegio is always a special wine, but even more so this year. Hailing from the most prized (and oldest) vineyard with the eponymous, ancient cherry tree, the 2020 vintage suited the style of Cilliegio perfectly. The 2020 is ultra expressive, with a deep red and black cherry perfume, sweet raspberry, blood orange and cacao on the palate and the signature soft, velvet texture. The delicate and precise nature of the wine is like a loud and clear radio signal. It’s spent 36 months in French tonneaux, with two-thirds new oak.

Concentrated mid ruby. Balsamic sweet-sour cherry nose with gingerbread hints, but much more complex than it sounds. Polished cherry fruit with a dollop of grainy tannins. Lots of substance and a long marasca-cherry-fruit finish.

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Ciliegio is wonderfully fresh and lifted with a bouquet of dried flowers, stone dust, mint leaves and wild strawberries. This is a model of purity, silken and pliant, with depths of ripe red and hints of blue fruits underscored by tactile mineral tones as violet inner florals arch across the palate. Vibrant acidity maintains a fantastic balance as the 2020 leaves a staining of primary concentration and sweet tannins that resonate beneath a dusting of lavender pastille.

Lovely sweet berries with roses and other flowers on the nose. Medium-bodied with tight and slightly austere tannins, but they are polished and in reserve. Fresh and crunchy at the end. This needs time to soften.

Full-bodied, powerfully structured, smooth and delicious, the 2020 Ciliegio delivers aromas and flavors of baked plum, ripe cherry, cinnamon, licorice and an earthy note of forest floor. Velvety tannins provide almost weightless support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced.

Brunello di Montalcino

Along with Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino is Tuscany's most famous DOCG and its boldest expression of the Sangiovese grape. Located 30 miles south of Siena, its 2,000 hectares of vines are hemmed in by the Orcia, Asso and Ombrone valleys. Brunello is the local name for the Sangiovese Grosso clone from which Brunello di Montalcino should be made in its entirety. The wine cannot be released for sale until five years after the harvest.
