Description

Pitures is François’s only Volnay from the north of the village. It’s a higher vineyard close to Pommard and stylistically very different. François showed this wine after the Caillerets because of its minerality. Its affinity to Pommard, generally a success in 2020, stands it in very good stead. It is sturdy and full of coulis red fruit.

Transparent blueish crimson. Fragrant and electric on the nose. Really lovely polished fruit that is very true to Volnay. Fine tannins lurk underneath. Neat and composed. Really rather irresistible. Glorious.

The 2020 Volnay Les Pitures 1er Cru has a floral, quite elegant and well defined bouquet with red cherries, wild strawberry, crushed stone and light rose petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, black and red fruit comingling with black pepper and white pepper towards the involving and quite persistent finish. This is another classy Volnay from Bitouzet-Prieur.
