Only 2,664 bottles were made of this ethereally intense, amazing wine.

2020 Falcoeira is such a brilliant expression of the old, single vineyard site from which its Mencía, Brancellao, Sousón and Garnacha fruit comes. The nose has an immediate depth of ripe blueberry fruit with a wonderfully floral lift. The palate has impressive concentration, full of black cherries and rounded blackberries with an elderberry edge. There is certainly a granitic feel to this, with glorious freshness amidst layers of crunchy, lifted redcurrants, all supported by a blood-orange twist. The tannins are like fine powder and move on the palate like miniature ball bearings whilst the finish lingers subtly and endlessly.

The nose of the 2020 Falcoeira A Capilla comes through as the ripest of the reds from 2020, despite being bottled at 12.5% alcohol. It has notes of ripe berries and a touch of soy sauce, a touch of iodine and a juicy and tasty palate, rich with deep flavors, and a long-lasting finish. It fermented in a 3,000-litre oak vat and matured in a 2,000-litre oak foudre.

Telmo Rodríguez is one of Spain's top winemakers and his new vintage of Falcoeira A Capilla was my favourite wine in the recent Berry Bros Autumn Tasting. He has conjured something magical from a single vineyard site of native varieties: Mencía, Brancellao, Sousón and Garnacha. Such beguiling aromas; beautifully perfumed and floral. There's a joyous sense of wild freedom to the palate, which is ethereal, bright and fresh; crunchy layers of red fruit, herbs and blood orange sit over a granitic core, with fine, powdery tannins. Incredible presence, with a lingering finish. Effortless class.
