Description
Coming from a slightly cooler site than the Brunate, Marcarini’s La Serra boasts real depth of flavour and a bold structure, but is slightly more subtle and refined than the former. The depth and darker touches are much more of a bass note than they are heavy. The total fermentation time was long and cool, resulting in a La Serra of very high definition. The nose is hauntingly pretty: dried rose, potpourri and tea leaves. The palate is filled with the endearing character of the 2020 vintage – generous, high-toned fruit with grace and elegance alongside immaculate structure and fine, ripe tannins.

Critics reviews
La Morra. Pale ruby. Wet-stones nose with hints of garden herbs and slow, very ripe strawberry fruit. Supple and elegant, but really builds up on the finish with long, aromatic fruit and lots of delicious, chewy tannins. Could do with more bottle age.
Drink 2026 - 2036
Deceptively understated, the 2020 Barolo La Serra is a nuanced wine that beautifully captures the essence of this site. Crushed flowers, mint, white pepper, sage and rose petal lend aromatic brilliance to a Barolo that impresses with its sculpted, chiselled personality. A whole range of floral and savoury overtones reappears on the finish, adding brightness and lift.
Drink 2024 - 2036
The 2020 La Serra from Marcarini is all about finesse and fragrance, offering scents of wild berry, blue flower, sun-warmed hay and leather. On the juicy palate, taut, refined tannins seamlessly support succulent Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and culinary spice.
Drink 2026 - 2032
Pretty berry fruit like raspberries and hawthorn berries here, plus hazelnuts and orange rind. It’s bright and beautifully balanced with a medium to full body and an elegant frame of firm yet tight-knit tannins. Delicious finish.
