2020 Bourgogne Blanc, Dominique Lafon, Burgundy

Description

This is a blend from Femelottes in Puligny and Grandes Coutures in Meursault. One-third is made in 500-litre demi-muids, two-thirds in 228-litre pièces; the wine is then put into tank from July. There’s a slight butter character on the nose, with fresh citrus and stone-fruit. It is crunchy and crisp, with vibrancy, energy and a fine, enduring finish. Drink 2023-2028.

From two fine vineyards, Femelottes and Grands Coutures. Two thirds made in barrel and one third in demi-muids, racked to tank, to bottle before Christmas. Glowing lemon and lime. Showing a classic lees-infused generous bouquet, this is as beautiful as ever, with a superb texture and really pretty fruit at perfect ripeness. Dominique can judge these things! Potential to keep as well. Lovely little point of acidity to finish.

In the Burgundy hierarchy, “Bourgogne” denotes the entry level of the classification system. This is a so-called “regional” appellation, theoretically covering the entire vineyard area of Burgundy. This is distinct from the more geographically precise village-level, Premier Cru and Grand Cru designations. The two most common Bourgogne-level wines are Bourgogne Blanc (“White Burgundy”) and Bourgogne Rouge (“Red Burgundy”).
