Description
The harvest for the Brunello started on the 20th September for the 2020 and finished within one week. The vines here are 40+ years old and sit at 400 – 450 metres above sea level – the altitude and exposition both playing a crucial role in affording the fruit precious respite through the diurnal range, essential to protecting freshness in warmer years.
When tasting the 2019s, Fabian suggested that, for La Màgia, the 2020 might just take the cherry vs the 2019. The wine certainly puts forward a convincing argument, with a super expressive raspberry perfume and an enchanting palate with black cherry, plum, blackcurrant and orange peel. This really finds complexity in the finish, with notes of fresh leather and wild herbs driven by structural finesse and precision.

Critics reviews
Lustrous mid ruby. Expressive lifted cherry with a black-pepper tingle and just a suggestion of oak. Mouth-filling cherry fruit with finely chiselled, very long, chewy tannins. Long, layered and a little dramatic.
Drink 2025 - 2032
The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is tightly coiled in its youthful state. Hints of mint, cedar and camphor complement notes of dried black cherries. It's expressive, silken and round on the palate with vividly ripe red and blue fruits that drench the senses in primary concentration. Brisk acidity keeps the mouth watering for more, even as fine-grained tannins saturate the palate. The 2020 finishes with dramatic length, leaving a tinge of slowly fading salted licorice and cocoa notes.
Drink 2026 - 2036
The nose is initially a bit shy but eventually reveals mature black-skinned fruit, Mediterranean brush, violet and baking spice. Full-bodied and concentrated, the enveloping palate doles out succulent Morello cherry, raspberry jam, vanilla and star anise set against firm, close-grained tannins that grip the finish. Give it a few more years to fully unwind then enjoy.
Drink 2029 - 2035
Fine-textured, with integrated tannins that frame the wine nicely. It’s medium-bodied with juicy, dark fruit, as well as notes of bark, spice and walnut husk. Flavorful and intense, focused and polished. Drink in two or three years, but already impressive.
