Description
The 2020 Aloxe-Corton, by Domaine Follin-Arbelet, is from two plots: La Toppe Martineau (southwest) and Boulmeau (southeast). They have recently planted Chardonnay in the latter also. This has everything you could want from a wine at this level: bright, crunchy, easy fruit; sufficient substance to lift it above generic; and just enough of the chunky style that differentiates Aloxe from other villages’ offerings.

Good price! Solid purple-berry fruit. Nothing desperately subtle but serviceable.
Drink 2027 - 2035
Deep purple without the black, sweeter, simpler and oakier, than the excellent Fichots, still with the good acidity of the vintage, no more than medium length. Attractive and the tannins are not rustic.
The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Village felt a little muted on the nose, reluctantly opening with blackberry, briary and light briny aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. Strict and focused but with commendable delineation on the sapid finish. It lacks a little flair, but it should give a decade’s worth of drinking pleasure.
