This plot is situated towards the lower slopes below the winery, as it looks west to Monforte d’Alba. There are 1.5 hectares here, with full south and south-west exposure. Franco considers the Barolo Margheria the most elegant of Massolino’s single vineyard wines, and the most expressive when young. The bouquet is delicate, with rose and notes of violet, and the tannins have a chalkier texture from the sandier soil. Always evident is a subtle nose of orange peel. There is a beguiling transparency to the wine.

Critics reviews

Walter Speller 17/20
A shade deeper than their classic Barolo of the same vintage. Serious and notably deep, peppery nose with savoury, minerally notes but still a little closed on the fruit. With aeration it’s more aromatic and fruit-driven, with raspberry notes. Cool climate in character. Juicy and energetic on the palate with firm muscular structure that demands more time.

The 2019 Barolo Margheria is a classic Serralunga Barolo. Deep, savory and wonderfully complex, the Margheria offers up a compelling mix of red/purplish fruit, sage, menthol, licorice, dried flowers, graphite and melted road tar. Muscular tannins wrap it all together. The 2019 is seriously impressive.
