2019 Barolo, Ceretto, Piedmont, Italy

Description

The 2019 Barolo Ceretto is a classic mix from four of the Barolo communes: Barolo itself and Castiglione Falletto but with the majority from the lower section of Brunate in La Marro and Prapò in Serralunga d’Alba. These all produced very high-quality fruit, which shows in the final product. The light touch of Ceretto’s winemaking gives this wine an almost silky feel, with an accent on red fruit, while the tannins are smoothly integrated.

Critics reviews

Monica Larner 94/100
The organic Ceretto 2019 Barolo has a note of juicy cherry and plum that pops up immediately and ties into a floral note, almost musky, like a tuberose or something comparatively fragrant. The fruit leads, but the wine does offer sensual aromas to follow with soft baking spice, mineral and very fine-grained tannins. A blend of fruit comes from Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, La Morra and Serralunga d'Alba. The style is modern classic. This is a very generous wine.

Already showing white truffle, plum, and meat on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with firm and chewy tannins that are polished and racy. Needs time to open. Better after 2026.

About this wine

Barolo

Barolo

Piedmont's most famous wine DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), Barolo is renowned for producing Italy's finest reds from 100 percent Nebbiolo. The Barolo appellation was formalised in 1966 at around 1,700 hectares, and has an exceptional terroir with almost every village perched on its own hill. The climate is continental, with an extended summer and autumn enabling the fickle Nebbiolo to achieve perfect ripeness.
