Massolino bought 1.8 hectares of this Castiglione Falletto vineyard in 2006, making it their only land in Barolo located outside Serralunga. Here, the soil is richer and the vines more energetic than on the cool, white soils of the rest of the estate. There is less limestone but more clay and magnesium, but none of the iron oxides of Serralunga. The 2019 Barolo Parussi is broad-shouldered and complex, with a brooding density appropriate to Castiglione, and a more savoury aspect. Franco feels this will need some time to truly find its balance.

Just ruby. Great depth of fruit on the nose and with saline, minerally touches. Not entirely open, but captivating, fragrant and lifted and with quite a bit of substance. Juicy acidity and still-shy fruit. Minerally and with fine, super-long tannin while the fresh acidity accentuates the ripe raspberry fruit. Gorgeous length and succulence. Fine but potent.

The 2019 Barolo Parussi is Massolino's sole Barolo from Castiglione Falletto. A wine of total grace and refinement, the 2019 is pure seduction. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet red berry fruit, orange peel and rose petal soar out of the glass. Readers will find an elegant, sublime Barolo that hits all the right notes. Don't miss it.
