Description

2019 Les Aubaguetes is defined by dark, spicy blackberry fruit which initially presents in a very intense, focused manner. This in no way prepares the palate for the explosion of sweet berry fruit that follows as pure liquid comes across in waves. There is a liquorice edge to this as the wine runs across the palate with an earthy hint behind and a real edge to keep it grounded. Ultra-fine tannins provide an incredibly subtle but nonetheless resilient structure, yet these just evaporate on the concentrated and resolutely long finish. This is seriously impressive.

A very fresh and floral red with blackberries, minerals and crushed cloves with some slate and white pepper. Medium body, fine tannins and a bright, energetic finish. Complex and refined. Drink in 2023, but already beautiful.

From 1.79ha in the village of Bellmunt, this is a field blend in which Garnacha makes up just 60%. Perhaps this is why Les Aubaguetes reveals a greater sense of Priorat's mineral characters. On the nose, elegant white flowers join rhubarb, redcurrant and a stony sensation. The palate begins plump and ripe, perfumed with red fruits and sense of hot slate, leading to a long, controlled finish. Scores will surely increase as this wine matures.
