Critics reviews
There is a small proportion from Sécher herein, but mostly this is full Vaillons. Pale lemon yellow, quite a sensual aspect to the nose, almost some tisane and spring flower notes. Very persistent, though the fruit in the middle is softer by comparison with Monts Mains.
A cool, pure and beautifully airy nose combines notes of pepper, pear, lemon rind, algae and a whiff of oyster shell. Once again, there is a beguiling texture to the voluminous and seductively rich flavours that are supported by bright acidity on the equally firm finale that is borderline salty in character. Moderate patience is advised.
Drink from 2027 onward
The 2019 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru has one of the most outgoing aromatics among Raveneau’s Premier Crus, featuring wonderful, exuberant yellow plum, tangerine and quince aromas, all zesty and feisty. The palate is well balanced with good weight and a slightly waxy texture. Phenolic concentration flourishes toward the finish and lends real persistence. There’s an almost Chenin-like element on the aftertaste. Excellent.
Drink 2024 - 2044
The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons delivers aromas of green apple, peach, white flowers and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to a full-bodied, taut and concentrated palate that’s racy and chiselled, concluding with a long, electric finish. This is a brilliant effort that will reward bottle age.
