Planted in 2001, this two-hectare site sits at the end of the Chinon côteaux on clay-flint. The 2018 Chinon L'Huisserie spent two years ageing in both 500-litre barrel and concrete before being bottled. As a result, it is showing a delightfully round, mellow texture and an abundance of resolved tannins. Fine floral and red cherry fruit leaves an attractive scent on the refreshing finish.

L’Huisserie is full of silex limestone and flint). Aromas and flavours of berries and cherries throughout, underlain by a note of earthy clay. Bright and juicy on the palate, with a touch of savoriness at the mid palate and soft crushed stone at the edges, culminating in an intense finish of asphalt and pepper. There’s a lot of rambunctious energy and juiciness, and seeing how this one ages will be fascinating. Aged one year in older barrique, then in cement for six months.

Chinon

Chinon is an important Cabernet Franc appellation that, at around 2,500 hectares, represents a slightly larger zone than its neighbour Bourgueil. Part of the appellation possesses light, sandy gravel soils to give an easy drinking style, while the remainder is blessed with a tuffeau subsoil from which the wines draw a finer structure and longevity. Neither style approaches the fullness of Bourgueil.
