Description
This is the interloper in the Alessandria range – the only non-Verduno wine – from vines which came to the estate with Vittore’s mother Flavia. It comes from a superb hilltop site in Monforte, above Bussia at 480 metres altitude, where iron-rich soils sit over limestone. There is always a wind-blown intensity to this wine, with notes of herb and mint from the nearby woods. It’s very pure and detailed this year, with a juicy wild strawberry finish.

Critics reviews
Monforte d'Alba. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Deep, brooding and meaty on the nose. Deep cherry palate that is still taut and framed by sweet clayey tannins. Very long, mouth-filling and finely balanced while maintaining elegance.

The 2018 Barolo Gramolere is the most engaging of the 2018 Barolos here. It shows a level of translucence that is missing from the other wines, most likely because of recent racking. Dark spice, menthol, plum and gravel lend quite a bit of nuance to this ample, expansive Barolo. The 2018 is beautifully done and also quite promising.
