Description

This whisky was distilled at Mars’s second single malt distillery, Tsuniki, and aged in situ on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan. Tsuniki specialises in producing heavier, oilier single malts which, when coupled with the warm climate and large seasonal swings in temperature, builds whiskies with real density and power.

This ex-Sherry hogshead has contributed a swathe of spice and fruit notes, headlined for me by nutmeg and luxuriantly chewy Medjool dates. Hugely enjoyable at natural cask strength, a drop or two of water brings a moreish honied leaning to the finish. I’ll drink mine with barbecue-glazed short ribs.
