Description

Since the 2016 vintage, Maura Veglio has offered the wine from this vineyard as a Riserva. Alessandro has seven rows of vines in this jewel of a site; the youngest are 30 years old, but some have reached ages of 100 years and more. The wine spent two years in barrique, followed by 30 months in botte. You can sense the warmth of its vintage on the nose: heady, with a herbal sense of sun-dried tomato. This is a hedonistic wine, with a jazz-hands sense of exuberance. The finish is fabulous, and offers so much pleasure.

Antonio Galloni 94/100

The 2017 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata is soft and quite supple, as so many wines are in this vintage. Bright red-toned fruit, spice and floral notes are front and centre. Lively acids preserve terrific freshness throughout. The biggest change in this wine, though, is far gentler oak imprint in the past, which is a huge positive.

This is another fine set of Barolos from Mauro Veglio. Alessandro Veglio describes 2019 as a year with a late bud break and a long vegetative cycle. The 2019s represent another step forward for an estate that continues to seek greater finesse in their wines. The new Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba is a terrific addition to the range.
