Bright but quite dark crimson, this has a powerful, rich, slightly heady bouquet with a succulent depth to it. Briary fruit, very ripe, mentholated ginger nuts were suggested by another taster), sharp acidity, indeed some volatility. I might be worried about the evolution, but the wine improved in the glass with sweeter fruit notes emerging. Not at its best today, so possibly under-rated.
