2014 Champagne Thiénot x Penfolds, Blanc de Noirs, Grand Cru, Brut

From a single 1-ha Pinot Noir vineyard in Aÿ at 150 m planted in 2006 and 2008. Full malo. Disgorged June and July 2022. Dosage 5.6 g/l.

Much broader on the nose than the Blanc de Blancs 2014. Quite rich on the palate. Complete and with a very fine bead. Really very long.

Drink 2024 - 2030

Confident and assertive, the rich, full nose offers the slightest hint of wild strawberries, grilled cashews and citrus flowers. A bright burnished gold colour accurately suggests richness, but this wine is still especially tightly wound, with a very long acid line carrying the flavours lightly through a lengthy palate. It will take some time in bottle before this recalcitrant begins to yield.

Drink 2024 - 2038

This shows complex aromas and flavors of walnuts, raspberries, dried apples and a hint of mushrooms. It’s salty, rich and flavorful on the palate, with a medium body and very fine bubbles. Wonderfully long, with crushed nut and cocoa butter notes coming through at the end. Pinot noir from a single vineyard Chambre aux Loups) in Ay. Disgorged June 2022. Drink or hold.
