Description
50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot.
This is a very juicy wine and, in line with many of the most famous estates his year, remains faithful to the style of the Grand Vin. A lightness, a soft fruit profile and a tannic structure balanced by beguiling acidity. It is seriously refreshing on the finish. The fruit has a lushness, good weight, and a sense of poise. The property is clearly happy with the result, as they certainly should be. This is a good second wine from 2014; it is authentic, positive, and enjoyable.

Tasted blind
Deep ruby and youthful in colour. Refined, stony mineral aroma with lots of elegant black fruit. Lovely wine with firm tannic structure and excellent balance.

The 2014 La Dame de Montrose is more precocious than Lafon-Rochet on the nose, with hints of dried cherries and black olive compote infusing the black fruit, touches of humidor and red brick. The palate is medium-bodied with dusky black fruit, fine tannins and a little austerity towards the finish, though at least it does exude Saint-Estèphe DNA. Give it a year in bottle.

An even Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon blend: lots of spice, deep cassis fruit and incredible freshness. It will show soon and last well.
Drink 2018 - 2026
As to the 2014s, these are beautiful wines and certainly a match for the 2015s. The 2014 La Dame de Montrose offers a deep purple colour, classic Cabernet Sauvignon notes, and a touch of violets, spring flowers and leafy herbs. This medium-bodied, elegant, spicy, complex 2014 has loads of charm yet should keep nicely for 15 years.

What a nose for a second wine! Lovely cassis and delicately leafy/earthy aromas. It’s a rare beast: a really mineral red Bordeaux. This has an excellent balance of ripeness and fresh, dry tannins and acidity. Long, clean finish.
It is ideal with an hour's carafe.
Intense, smoky, and with plenty of black fruit, who doesn't love this 2nd wine of Château Montrose? It's a vintage that is often overlooked, particularly after the recent great years Bordeaux has had, but it's at a great moment to open right now and delivers a ton of St Estèphe and Left Bank typicity, with crayon and graphite. Harvest September 22 to October 16.
