Critics reviews

Jancis Robinson MW 17.5/20

Contains one-third of Mazoyères since 1996. Just 30-40% whole bunch ‘to keep the feminine side of the wine’. 100% new oak.

Pretty heady and rich. It's a sweet start and very juicy. Easy to like! There are lots of frameworks underneath. Vivacious. Kicking up its petticoats. Firm but not dry finish.

Utilising around 40% whole bunch fruit, the 2014 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a comparatively rich bouquet with layers of macerated red cherry fruit mixed with blueberry, the new oak coming through in pronounced fashion. The palate is sweet on the entry with grainy tannin, red cherries and wild strawberry, as well as a touch of orange rind with a spice note towards the structured finish that is Mazoyres-like in style. Give this a decade in bottle.

Deep ruby-red Musky aromas of black cherry, violet, liquorice and bitter chocolate Powerful, densely packed and penetrating, showing less early sweetness than the Lavaux-Saint-Jacques but coming across as remarkably thick and full for a 2014 A bit oaky in the early going, but one can already appreciate this wine's grand cru depth Finishes with big, dusty, even tannins and terrific chewy persistence This wine boasts lovely balance but will nonetheless require extended ageing.

Allen Meadows 95/100

A blend of one-third Mazoyères and two-thirds Charmes proper - the fruit comes from a mix of mostly 20-year-old vines and a small percentage of extremely old vines; 40% stems.

A discreet application of wood doesn't detract from the intensely floral and notably elegant red berry fruit and earth-inflected aromas. There is really lovely richness and volume to the caressing medium-bodied flavours that coat the palate with dry extract on the balanced, complex and wonderfully persistent finale. This too is absolutely lovely.

Drink from 2031 onward
