Description

When tasted in November this was very backward, with blackcurrant leaf notes; on the palate, however, there was really energetic, vibrant fruit, with huge density, lovely texture and a reverberating finish. This will develop into a great wine.

Tasting with David Croix at Camille Giroud is always a pleasure, especially so this year as the range of 2014s is delicious. David feels that the wines are all about drinkability and balance rather than exceptional power. His theory is that the great start to the growing season kept the vines healthy through the cool, damp summer.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Camille Giroud's 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru has an arresting, quite oriental-scented bouquet with touches of hoisin and cooked meats infusing the dark red berry fruit. With time, there is a faint touch of cola that develops a little strange. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe black fruit laced with truffle and a touch of black pepper. I appreciate the balance and focus of this Chambertin and it feels very long on the finish. Excellent. Tasted September 2017.
