Description
This delicious wine is still showing all the elegance and precision it had when I first recommended it to Decanter readers almost a year ago, but its steely, tight-knit structure has since developed and evolved into something altogether more yeasty, savoury and self-assured - all of which bodes well for the new Gusbourne prestige cuvée blend from 2013 that winemaker Charlie Holland is steadfastly holding onto until it's suitably aged and ready for release.

Great autolytic impact on the nose – really captures the champenois ideal with its bready notes and dry, refreshing palate. Sophisticated and balanced on the palate, and the fragrant green apple fruit has great persistence. One of their best releases, and eminently ageable.

The 2013 Blanc de Blancs has a crisp, quite austere but quintessentially Blanc de Blancs style bouquet full of energy. The palate is fresh and quick out of the blocks with Granny Smith apples and fresh lime. This feels brisk and lively, and it is an English sparkler with commendable weight and excellent persistence. You can feel this Blanc de Blancs tingling long after its slate-like finish. This is the best of three examples I have tasted from Gusbourne, and it is highly recommended.
