Description

Delamain L’Oiseau Rare is a Hors d’Age Grande Champagne Cognac honouring the legacy of the Delamain family and their deep respect for nature. Crafted from exceptional eaux-de-vie hidden away by former Cellar Master Dominique Touteau—whom affectionately called them “Oiseau” (little birds)—this rare blend was matured for decades in a 40-hectolitre wooden vat in Delamain’s dry cellar, the Grand Chai. The unique ageing conditions intensify its flavour and structure. Finalised just in time for Touteau’s retirement, it reflects generations of craftsmanship and quiet innovation.

The beautiful decanter is adorned with a selection of birds described in a book, Portraits d’oiseaux, written by Jacques Delamain, who ran the company in the 1920s. A personal favourite of Jacques and typical of the Charente region, the Kestral, etched in gold, takes pride of place at the front of the decanter.

Tasting note

Former Delamain Cellar Master, Dominique Touteau, referred to his various barrels and dame-jeannes as "little birds", Oiseau. Fortunately for his successor, ninth-generation family member Charles Delamain, this mercurial uber-blend was created in plain sight, in a specially created foudre in the Grand Chai in Jarnac. It is quintessentially “Delamain” on the nose with elegant and beguiling fruit.

The palate has incredible purity, a featherlight touch, and an attractive cornucopia of fresh, cooked, and dried fruits. This is a richly flavoured symphony of a Cognac, with not a single note off-key or out of place. Bravo Dominique.
