1000 Champagne Roger Coulon, Esprit de Vrigny, 1er Cru, Brut Nature (Base 2018)

This cuvée comes from three different plots in Vrigny: one plot of Chardonnay on chalk; one of Pinot Noir on clay; and one of Pinot Meunier on sand. This is the holy trinity of varieties, and showcases the very best of Vrigny’s terroir. The plots are all vinified separately in oak barrel, and there is an equal proportion of each in the final blend. No dosage was added, and 30% reserve wine was used. On the nose, we have lifted aromas of orange and lemon marmalade, with floral notes of white flowers and violets. There’s good salinity on the beautiful, elegant palate. This is a lovely combination of all three grape varieties, each showing nicely. There’s sweetness on the long finish, and good energy. Just 2300 bottles were produced.
