Description
With the packaging designed by the famous Japanese artist Yamaguchi Akira, this blend of traditional oil painting and a contemporary Western feel typifies the innovation that Dr Bill Lumsden brings to this limited edition annual release from Glenmorangie.
With a deep orange, almost bronze colour, there is a floral herbality and beeswax on the nose, seamlessly transitioning from cedar into cherry wood and a tropical resin on the palate. An elegance and complexity tease through to a most pleasing long finish, the notes of white pepper and fennel reminding you this has some maturation in Mizunara casks and ex-Bourbon and Sherry.
I’m very much looking forward to revisiting this soon with a box of orange matchmakers, reflecting on a wonderful trip to Tain, and taking some time to see how many Dr Bills I can make out in the artwork.

Critics reviews
This one uses mizunara oak for maturation along with sherry and bourbon casks. Smoldering sandalwood, orange peel, and overall citrusy aromas on the nose. Lush on the palate with pleasant soapiness that yields to manuka honey, red currants, and lime.
The finish is mid-length, with similar flavors cloaked in smoldering embers. Great flavors that are a bit stifled—perhaps too much emphasis on barrel variation as the flavor integration becomes a bit lost and overlooked.
