Description

One of four limited edition releases created to celebrate House of Suntory's 100th anniversary comes from the Hakushu distillery that produces a peated style rarely seen in Japanese Single Malts. There's remarkable freshness here, entwined with the subtle peat, which expresses itself as a sweet smokiness—citrus and green apple, herbal notes. The smokiness is long on the palate but doesn't overwhelm - balanced and ethereal—honeyed notes building all the time. The precision and layered flavour profile here is extraordinary.

Herbal on the nose with kiwi and lush grass, the smoke showing distinct mineral qualities; almost metallic, with sage leaves, green olive, shredded ginger, and pea shoots. The palate shows green apple, lime juice, Szechuan pepper, gooseberry, sweet grapefruit, and layers of herbs. The smoke is barely there until the finish, which is generously fruity with gentle woodsmoke and fresh herbal notes.
