Hambledon, Première Cuvée Rosé, Sparkling, Hampshire, England

Description

Hambledon Vineyard’s chalk soils give energy, vibrancy and accuracy to all its wines, and the Premier Cuvée Rosé is no exception. Winemaker Felix Gabillet, a French native, was given creative freedom to create this stunning cuvée. It is unlike any other produced in the UK. Based on Pinot Meunier, it is produced using the saignée method, which gives it a red wine-like savouriness and vinous weight. The foam is delicate, yet the fruit profile is deep: pure raspberry with peppery Pinot undertones, blackberry tang and sapid, chalky brightness. The finish is complex, aided by the 2016 base and solera-aged reserve wine.

Critics reviews

Sylvia Wu 93/100

This is a Pinot Meunier-driven sparkling rosé made using the saignée method, showcasing a dark salmon-pink colour. Based on the 2016 vintage, the latest release was bottled in 2017 and disgorged in 2022. Toasty on the nose with caramelised red apple and red berries. The palate is full-on and rounded, featuring brioche and biscuit, complemented by zingy red pomelo and red apple, refreshed by bright acidity 9g/l). A satisfying rosé with spectacular breadth and flavour concentration. Elegantly poised, it still has plenty of life ahead.
