Description

Our old friends at Springbank created the characterful Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt by vatting all five single malts produced in the eponymous town. In doing so, they have epitomised the style of Campbeltown, the last bastion of whisky production on the Kintyre peninsula. The style is a complex mix of sweet and savoury. Honeycomb interplays with brine whilst unctuous marzipan and whisps of peat smoke notes mingle together. A pleasing nuttiness on the finish makes for a moreish dram indeed.

Campbeltown today is a strangely sober and robust town at the end of the Kintyre peninsula. In the middle of the 19th centaury it was a thriving centre for whisky production with the town being home to 34 distilleries at its peak allowing it to proclaim itself to be the whisky capital of the world. Today there are only two distilleries in Campbeltown, Glen Scotia and Springbank.
