Description

Gosset is the oldest known producer of wine in Champagne, dating back to 1584. Situated in the tiny Grand Cru village of Aÿ, Gosset has some rather famous neighbours, including Bollinger. The team here concentrate on the quality of their wines rather than the quantity.

Champagne Gosset’s Grand Rosé is wonderfully clean, with flavours of rosehip, redcurrant and peach, wonderful aromatics and impeccable length. It represents the archetype of great rosé Champagne.

Bottled in 2014 and disgorged in June 2018, the NV Grand Ros Brut offers up an attractive bouquet of sweet red apples, fresh pastry and orange rind. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, concentrated and powerful, built around a bright spine of acidity and a tight-knit core but with enough substance to cover its structural bones and offer great promise for medium-term cellaring. This is an intense, elegantly austere wine that exemplifies the Gosset style.

In 1668, the monk Dom Pérignon is credited with discovering the traditional method of making sparkling wine - a technique now used worldwide. Yet it is only in Champagne, France’s most northerly wine region, that this method produces wines of such finesse and prestige. Today, Champagne is home to over 15,000 growers and 290 Champagne houses. The region’s cool climate often necessitates a blend of grape varieties: Chardonnay brings fruit and elegance, while Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier provide body and backbone.
