Bottle of Château Figeac, a Médoc-style wine from St Émilion’s top tier

Château Figeac

Château Figeac is one of St Émilion’s most celebrated estates, prized for its distinctive identity and Left Bank influence. With an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, Figeac produces wines of structure, elegance, and ageing potential—often described as the most Médoc-like wine in the appellation. In 2022, it was promoted to the top tier of the St Émilion classification: Premier Grand Cru Classé A.

Gravel, Cabernet, and Grand Cru Classé A status

Located northwest of St Émilion, Château Figeac shares a border with Cheval Blanc. Its 54 hectares of vineyards sit on deep gravel soils—rare on the Right Bank—over a flinty, iron-rich subsoil. This unique terroir is ideally suited to Cabernet varieties, setting Figeac apart in a Merlot-dominated region. The vineyard is typically planted with:

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Franc

Merlot

This blend gives Figeac its hallmark style: refined, aromatic, structured, and long-lived. Over the years, the estate has consistently pushed quality higher, culminating in its promotion to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in 2022—joining the most elite ranks of St Émilion.
