Château Tronquoy-Lalande

Château Tronquoy-Lalande is one of St Estèphe’s hidden gems: a 30-hectare estate on Bordeaux’s Left Bank that consistently overdelivers. Owned by the Bouygues family and proprietors of nearby Château Montrose, Tronquoy-Lalande has earned a reputation for precision, balance, and exceptional value. Wine writer Jane Anson describes it as “one of the most reliable buys of the appellation.”

A modern estate with deep roots

The Bouygues family acquired Château Tronquoy-Lalande in 2006, bringing the property into the same stable as Montrose, Clos Rougeard in Saumur-Champigny and Domaine Henri Rebourseau in Gevrey-Chambertin. Hervé Berland, formerly of Château Mouton Rothschild, manages the estate, while long-standing Operations Manager Yves Delsol ensures continuity and local expertise. A new winery, completed in 2010, has elevated quality even further, blending tradition with modern winemaking precision.

Terroir and style

The vineyards encircle the château, rooted in deep gravel and clay soils typical of St Estèphe. Plantings are dominated by Merlot (52%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (39%), Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. This balance brings both structure and generosity to the wines, resulting in a style that is approachable in youth yet capable of graceful ageing—a hallmark of Tronquoy-Lalande’s enduring appeal.
