Greystone Wines

Greystone Wines

Nestled on the limestone-rich hillsides of North Canterbury’s Waipara Valley, Greystone Wines has earned acclaim for its expressive, site-driven wines and sustainability efforts. The estate was founded in 2000 when the Thomas family purchased a farm with exceptional limestone soils in the Omihi hills. Viticultural specialist Nick Gill was brought over from Penfolds to plant 13 blocks of vines on this unique terroir; this work was complete by 2004.

Learn more about Greystone Wines

A certified organic estate, Greystone has committed to regenerative viticulture, encouraging biodiversity and soil vitality to cultivate vineyards that are both resilient and vibrant. Winemaker Dom Maxwell is one of New Zealand’s most respected. His intuitive, hands-off approach allows the character of each parcel to shine through in Greystone’s wines. Under his stewardship and since his first vintage in 2008, Greystone has pioneered innovative techniques, creating some truly special wines from the estate’s excellent terroir.

This craftsmanship and care are perfectly embodied in our Own Selection New Zealand Pinot Noir, which Dom has kindly been making for us since the 2014 vintage. It is silky, fragrant and finely structured, reflecting not just the elegance of Waipara Pinot Noir, but the philosophy of a producer dedicated to excellence through harmony with nature.
