Heritage and terroir
Situated in the south-east of St-Julien, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou’s 50 hectares of vines thrive on deep gravel beds studded with the large stones (“beaux cailloux”) that give the estate its name. These well-draining soils, enriched with alluvial deposits and high clay content, create optimal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (5%). This exceptional terroir yields grapes of remarkable concentration, complexity and balance, forming the foundation of the château’s enduring reputation.
Winemaking and cellaring potential
Each vintage is matured for 18 months in 50–60% new French oak barriques, adding layers of spice, texture and finesse. Ducru-Beaucaillou is renowned for its deep colour, ripe fruit, and perfect harmony between power and elegance. These wines demand patience, typically requiring at least a decade of bottle ageing to reveal their full potential. They can continue to develop in exceptional vintages for several decades, making them a prized addition to any fine wine collection.
