Selling with us
What are my selling options?
At Berry Bros. & Rudd, we specialise in helping customers build exciting and enjoyable collections of fine wines and spirits. As part of this, we also help customers sell their wines. This can be done either with our fine wine exchange, BBX (where customers sell to other customers), with “Sell to BB&R” (where we approach customers and offer to buy their wine and spirits back from them on a commission-free basis) or via Auctions (Berry Bros. & Rudd curate a selection of wines and spirits periodically and offer them in a timed auction).
How do I sell through BBX?
You’ll need to log in to your account and register as a seller before you sell any wines with BBX. During registration, you’ll be asked to provide details of how you’d like to receive payment for any wines you sell.
Once you’ve registered as a seller, go to your wine cellar and choose what you’d like to sell and the number of cases. You should see market value information for all wines in your cellar, which can help you set the right price. Alternatively, you can use our valuation service.
Once you offer your wine for sale, it will be available to buy from bbr.com alongside all our wines. It will also appear on Wine-Searcher. Customers will be able to buy it straight away at the price you’ve set, or place a bid that’s below your asking price. You’re free to accept or decline any bids below your set price but it is important you alter your bid alerts so you are made aware of any bids on your wines.
Any orders you receive will be held as
“pending”
until we have successfully captured payment. We’ll email you at each stage to confirm the next steps. If you have any questions, you can email the team at
bbx@bbr.com
.

What is “Sell to BB&R”?
Occasionally, we will approach our customers that have wines or spirits stored with us and offer to buy them back.
How is “Sell to BB&R” different from selling with BBX?
Simply, BBX is a customer-to-customer exchange. When you sell with BBX, you list your wine for sale and set your own selling price. Your listing reaches a large audience of buyers and they can either buy at your listed price or place a bid to buy at a different price. We charge a commission of 10% on every successful sale. With “Sell to BB&R”, you are entering into an agreement solely with Berry Bros. & Rudd. As a result, we do not charge commission if you agree to sell to us.
What does a “Sell to BB&R” offer look like?
Emails will appear in your inbox from Berry Bros. & Rudd but come from selltobbr@bbr.com . They will have a subject line of “Sell to BB&R: an offer to purchase your wine”.
How do I receive “Sell to BB&R” offers?

I’ve changed my mind and don’t want to sell the wines or spirits BB&R have purchased from me. Is there a cooling off period?
No, after you have accepted an offer, there is no cooling off period, as the transaction is automatically processed by our systems. However, we recognise that mistakes can happen. This remains at our discretion, and can only happen within two working days of the transaction.

If I want to contact Berry Bros. & Rudd to sell my wines to you directly, can I do this?
Yes, if you are interested in selling your wines or spirits to us, you can get in touch by emailing selltobbr@bbr.com . We will then make an assessment. If you are interested in submitting your wines or spirits to a future auction, please email auctions@bbr.com .
Why would Berry Bros. & Rudd want to buy a customer’s wine or spirit?
As a merchant, Berry Bros. & Rudd has long-standing relationships with suppliers across the world. We buy wine and spirits from these suppliers, and we sell them to our customers. Much of this is then stored in our warehouses. For several reasons, such as ensuring we have a wide variety of wines and spirits to offer our customers, we occasionally use third parties to source wine or spirits that we cannot get directly from our suppliers. Since we can be confident of the provenance of the wine and spirits stored in our warehouse, it makes sense to approach our customers to make an offer to purchase their wines and spirits.
Is it better to sell my wines and spirits to BB&R directly or list my stock on BBX?
The best way to sell any particular wine or spirit will depend on a number of factors, including the wine itself, its age, its maturity and your own cellar and personal circumstances. The “Sell to BB&R” service is simply another route for you to sell items from your cellar.
That said there are two key differences between BBX and “Sell to BB&R” .
- With “Sell to BB&R” you can sell your duty paid products (you can only sell In Bond products with BBX)
- With “Sell to BB&R” you can sell your spirits (you can only sell bonded wine with BBX).
Which wines & spirits are eligible for offers?
To be eligible for “Sell to BB&R” your wines or spirits must meet all of the following criteria:
- Physically located in Berry Bros. & Rudd’s warehouse
- Fully owned by you (i.e. goods paid for in full)
- You must be both the named legal owner as well as the beneficial owner on Berry Bros. & Rudd records (i.e. wines held in trust are not eligible)
- Must pass our company quality control checks
I want to sell my wines at your next auction. How can I start this process?
If you are interested in discussing consigning some of your wines or spirits to a future auction, please email auctions@bbr.com with a list of what you are interested in consigning in Excel sheet format. Our auctions will likely be comprised of scarcer and unique wines though we will look to offer a mix of maturity. We will host auctions which offer Duty Paid and In Bond wines, by the case and the bottle – and spirits as well.
